Ethical Business Behavior and Conduct:

  1. No good purpose is accomplished by extravagant claims for the merits of sires and bitches, or the efficiency of their performance.

  2. All members will use truthful statements concerning their own associations and support such statements with adequate proof.

  3. Any complaints or questions on the interpretation of this Code shall be submitted to the Grand Korumak Association® (GKA) or an authorized committee thereof upon request of GKA.

  4. When confronted by a situation not covered by this Code of Ethics, breeders will conduct themselves as they would like to be treated under similar circumstances.

Breeding:

  1. Each litter must be conscientiously planned based on a consideration of the dam and sire’s temperaments and qualities in relation to the breed’s official standard.  Before deciding to produce a litter, the proper placement of puppies, not to be kept by the breeder, should be considered.

  2. Only those adults that are sound working livestock guardians without defects and that meet the temperament considerations for the Grand Korumak® (GK) shall be used for breeding.

  3. Only healthy, mature studs and bitches will be bred.

  4. Breeders and purchasers of puppies and/or adults will be urged to spay or neuter those animals that, for any reason, should not be used for breeding.

  5. Breeders and Purchasers will also be urged to properly safeguard intact bitches from unplanned matings.  Unplanned matings will be scrutinized and admonished.

Health:

  1. All dogs must be kept under sanitary conditions.

  2. All breeding foundation dogs require unique genetics being entered into the database, as well as DNA Testing, OFA/PennHIP testing and/or hip x-rayed by a licensed veterinarian, guarding functionality evaluation, and temperament evaluation before approval and registration.

Registration:

The Grand Korumak breed is a newer breed of livestock guardian dog focused on maintaining traditional livestock guardian characteristics.  The breed is being developed based on a generational registry, which allows us to thoughtfully evaluate each generation to determine the dog’s possible breeding contributions.

  1. Breeding dogs must be registered with the GKA.

  2. GKA will maintain accurate records of matings and pedigrees for registered dogs.

  3. Dual Registration

    1. GKA will accept and register dogs from other legitimate registries that keep a database of generational lineage.

Sales:

  1. The breeder shall discriminate in the sale of puppies and adult dogs and be concerned with the type of homes in which they are placed.

  2. All puppies leaving the breeder’s possession will be at a minimum of at least eight weeks old.

  3. All advertising must be factual. It will not be misleading or encourage raising dogs for profit.

Price:

  1. The value of the breed and breeder’s dogs will be upheld by setting a price that is determined by the cost of producing, maintaining, and placing sound, healthy dogs.
